The global RAM and memory shortage has already caused prices to quadruple since September 2025, and it’s putting even more pressure on already tight education budgets.
What’s causing the issue? A big chunk of the story is AI infrastructure. Manufacturers are focusing capacity on higher-margin memory products used in AI workloads, which can reduce what’s available for mainstream devices. DRAM is the headline here, but storage pricing can add to the overall picture.
There’s also coverage suggesting major suppliers are planning significant NAND price increases, which can push up SSD costs and, by extension, system build prices.
