On Sunday 13 September, our Managing Director Andy Hopton will be lining up with 60,000 other runners at the AJ Bell Great North Run, taking on the 13.1 miles from Newcastle to South Shields as part of #TeamBowelCancerUK.
He’s running in memory of Kelly Egan.
Kel was the much-loved big sister of Ed Egan, Andy’s close friend and co-director here at VeryPC. She was diagnosed with incurable bowel cancer in early November 2025, and her health deteriorated quickly. She passed away just weeks later, on 28 November, with Ed and her family at her side.
In the short time she had, Kel was able to talk, reminisce and say goodbye to the people she loved. Not every family affected by bowel cancer gets that time. That’s what this run is about.
Why Bowel Cancer UK
Bowel Cancer UK is the UK’s leading bowel cancer charity. They fund vital research and services to save lives and improve quality of life for everyone affected by the disease.
Every pound Andy raises goes towards that work. It means earlier diagnosis, better support, and more families getting more time together.
How you can help
