At VeryPC, our production team is at the heart of everything we do, ensuring every device is expertly built, thoroughly tested and carefully packed before it reaches our customers. Leading that team is Lee, our Production Manager, who has been an integral part of the VeryPC family for the past 11 years.
Lee’s journey is one we’re incredibly proud of. Starting in the warehouse as an Operative in 2015, he has progressed through a variety of roles, continually developing his skills, sharing his knowledge and earning the respect of colleagues across the business. Today, he leads a dedicated team of around 12 full-time employees, alongside more than 20 seasonal team members who join us during our busiest periods.
Our seasonal staff come from all walks of life, from students looking to gain valuable work experience to local people, family members and friends of existing colleagues. Working alongside Lee and the production team gives them the opportunity to develop hands-on skills in warehouse operations, PC building, QC and packing, while becoming part of the friendly and supportive culture we’re proud to foster at VeryPC.
In addition to being an exceptional leader, Lee is also one of our Mental Health First Aiders, a role that perfectly reflects his caring and approachable nature. Whether he’s supporting his team through a busy day, helping someone learn a new skill or simply making time for a conversation, Lee is always there for those around him. His warm smile and positive attitude help make VeryPC a welcoming and enjoyable place to work.
Getting to know Lee
Outside of work, Lee is a proud father of two, balancing family life with leading one of the busiest teams in the business.
We caught up with Lee to learn more about his journey at VeryPC, what motivates him and what life looks like both in and out of work.
Q: How long have you been with VeryPC, and what was your very first role when you joined the company?
A: I originally joined VeryPC in February 2015 as a Warehouse Operative.
Q: What does a typical day look like for you?
A: My days are focused on scheduling orders into production, liaising with teams across the business to ensure everything runs smoothly, supporting the production team and keeping on top of health and safety responsibilities.
Q: What do you enjoy doing when you’re not at work?
A: Spending time with my family is number one. Although some people would say I have a slight obsession with pool!
Q: Your team includes a large number of seasonal staff each year. What do they bring to the business, and why are these opportunities important?
A: This summer, we have 22 additional temporary team members helping us manage the seasonal increase in workload across a variety of roles. Every single person plays an important part in helping the business meet demand.
At the same time, we’re able to give something back by providing valuable work experience opportunities to students studying at college or university. It’s also great getting to meet and work with so many different personalities and backgrounds.
Q: If you could have dinner with any three people, dead or alive, who would they be?
A: George Best, Paul Hunter and Sir Alex Ferguson.
Q: If you could swap jobs with anyone at VeryPC for a day, who would it be and why?
A: Honestly, I’d like to swap jobs with everybody. It would be a great way to learn more about what people do day to day and better understand how all the different parts of the business fit together.
Q: If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
A: The ability to pause time, just so I could enjoy the good moments for a little longer.
Q: As one of our Mental Health First Aiders, why is employee wellbeing so important to you?
A: Employee wellbeing is one of the most important things to me. The workplace should be a safe space and a positive distraction from life’s challenges. Being able to support our staff is a real privilege. My view has always been simple: if you support your team, your team will support you.
Q: What’s something on your bucket list you’d love to do one day?
A: Where do I start? I’d love to travel from the East Coast to the West Coast of the USA via Route 66, either in a Shelby GT or an RV with the family. I’d also love to experience a proper Texan BBQ and take the family to Disney World in Florida.
Q: What are you most proud of during your time at VeryPC?
A: It might sound a little cliché, but I’m most proud of being part of such a fantastic team. I’ve had the pleasure of working alongside them, leading them and watching so many people grow and develop within the company.
